Chu Shogi - The Chess Variant Pages

Chu Shogi The first mentioning of it in historic documents, as an already popular game, occurred around 1350 AD. Why 13×13 Shogi is great: Nutty Shogi, designed by HG Muller, is a reduced version of Tenjiku Shogi, a 16×16 historic Shogi variant famous for its outrageously powerful pieces and extremely fast-paced and destructive play. Nutty Shogi condenses Tenjiku’s armies of 78 pieces per player, with 36 types of pieces, down to 50 pieces of 25 types ...

The shogi variant in the referenced photo seems to be played on a 10x10 board with 30 pieces on each side, but the pieces clearly belong to a chu shogi set both from the distinct types visible in the initial array shown and the unused pieces in the blurred detail of the upper picture (I think that I recognize a copper general and a lance).

Chu Shogi | Jeux en bois, Jeux, Bois

5 août 2016 - I recently discovered Chu Shogi, an ancient (1350 ad) Japanese Chess variant: It features a very interesting piece, the Lion, which can make two King moves in one turn (possibly capturing two pieces at once). Of course the Japanese would play it with horrible pieces, all the same color and Chinese characters...

Zillions of Games - Press (Newsgroups)

I decided to use Zillions to implement a chu shogi program for a few reasons: 1) to see how easy it was to write a complex game for the Zillions engine; 2) to make freely available a chu playing program that plays a much stronger game than any others currently about (including my own Shogi Variants program); & 3) because I wanted to adapt it to ...
